Nostalgia walks with me down the dirt path
The air smells innocent
My hoody keeps my body as warm as a laugh
Comfortable and cancelling out the diffidence

Bushes and trees sit at the sidelines
They pleasantly exist and bid me hello
I take a drag of the sweet winter air; my sense finds
That my heart beats a little faster and my stomach’s butterflies float

I reach the top of the trail over looking the city
I reach my arms out and declare
To those fools in the groove of their lives; I pity!
They are not as free as I am in this sweetest of affairs

The rock says, “Here, take a seat”
And I oblige to the generous offer and rest
Looking out over the sea of the city and tapping my feet
To the rhythm of the thoughts that infest
