Becoming Strong
Picking up a pen and putting down the sword
Causes more harm than ever before
Letting out the feelings society told me were wrong
Stepping up from the shadows, with the message I am strong
You pointed out my flaws as if I couldn’t already see them
Turning myself into my worst enemy
But now I’m facing those stares and whispers that use to cripple me
From these bonds of hatred I can and will break free
No one can stop me now, I am no slave to man and their thoughts of right and wrong
Who are you to say I don’t belong?
The definition of beauty is nonexistent
A sense of belonging seems so distant
They put strict limitations on who we are expected to be
If you dare to be different, you’ll be criticized I guarantee
They will make you feel small, worthless, and insignificant
But in reality you are simply magnificent
Being yourself shouldn’t come with a cost to pay
People talk about change that fails to happen everyday
Nobody can ever know the torture of hate
Or the emotional scars it creates
