For years I have been walking,
But mama's hand I always hold.
She picks me up when my feet are tired,
And makes sure I never fall.

She guides me on the right paths,
She leads me here and there,
Always making sure that I,
Won't get lost anywhere.

"Look at that mountain mama!"
I say to her one day,
A huge climb up a treacherous face,
"Yes dear, you will go there someday."

"But I don't want to mama,
Unless you will come with me,
It looks so very hard,
Upon my own two feet."

But now I'm at the foot of it,
Still holding mama's hand,
And she says to me: "Now off you go!
Have fun, become a man!"

And terrified I slowly slip,
My small hand out of hers,
I look up at the mountainside,
And shiver as it blurs.

This climb I must do on my own,
Without my mother's aid,
Its time for me to leave her now,
And yes, I am afraid.

But as I take my first few steps,
I find it's not that hard,
And I look back and see her waving,
As on my new journey I start.

Up the mountain side I climb,
Relishing the test,
For I realize that I'm made of,
More than I had guessed.

And I know that I can do this,
Without a guiding hand,
My own two feet and own two eyes,
Are all that I demand.
