Safe and Sound?
A flag blows at half mast,
Along with a haunting melody.
Just close your eyes.
I close my eyes,
Only to see the images that haunt my dreams,
In a country where children are no longer safe.
The sun is going down,
Taking us with it,
Into the darkness,
Plunging us to a standstill,
When we need it more than ever.
You’ll be alright,
so they say,
But will we really,
When everything carries on around us,
with a mocking silence.
No one can hurt you now,
Words to comfort us,
That are lies.
So many can hurt us,
Now more than ever.
Come the morning light,
You and I’ll be safe and sound,
Please, light,
Come soon.
We can’t hold on much longer.
A flag blows at half mast,
Along with a haunting melody.
“Just close your eyes,
The sun is going down,
You’ll be alright.
No one can hurt you now.
Come the morning light,
You and I’ll be safe and sound.”
~ “Safe and Sound” by Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars
