The Strength of Loneliness

I lie not to impress, but to fit in.
Smiles form not out of happiness, but out of courtesy.
We hug to maintain unstable peace, but not with love.
I wear dresses for them, not me.
Make-up? It masks my unique imperfections.
Books deemed "unacceptable" are strategically covered.
Offbeat music is listened to behind closed doors.
Opinions are withheld to remain polite.
High-fives present false encouragement.
Edited pictures share fabricated stories.
Am I insecure?
Or justifiably afraid of being alone.
