Followed
In the darkness of silent night under the twisted trees
With branches like claws that grope the wind and block out the light of the stars
The path of narrow, gravelly dirt that rasps wherever you step
The silence so thick and the darkness so black there’s nowhere you are safe
Tired, running, fleeing for your sanity
Wandering aimlessly like a lost ghost who is forever trapped between two miserable worlds
Where even your most intense efforts are all performed in vain
With eyes glued to the source of the noises
And legs tensed tight, ready to retreat
No weapons except for your hands
Already covered in your own blood
Stumbling and falling, vision blurring
Pangs of hunger and sudden panic
The shadow that creeps up slowly behind you
Colder than the icy grip of death
Impossible to look upon its face
Shrinking away from its horrid presence
Arms touching the ground and a face of white
No eyes, no mouth but a hideous grin
A smartly dressed man with a terrible secret
Following you
