Safety
When hesitation interrupts
 You improvised script
 And the air becomes hollow
As it escapes from your lips

 My timid lips beside you
 Can always fill the gap
 As though premeditated
I know the words left unsaid

 But I am only human
 I cannot read your mind
 When presented with silence
 And no clear context

 You hide your words beneath
 A painted exterior shell
 Suggesting assurances
But I know you too well

 It festers in my gut,
 And intrudes my thoughts

 I am only human
 Only with a hint
 A sense of direction
Even just a word or two

 Can my mind understand
 The contents of your emotions.
 Vague and empty words
 Keep me restless and unsure

 I am safety
 I will never leave you
 Why can't you expose
 What you trap inside
