Hey Pretty Girl
"Hey pretty girl, won't you look my way. Love's in the air tonight."
Looking at you for the first time,
I knew you were something special.
Those beautiful green eyes sparkled when you watched me,
Promising me a real good time.
"Hey pretty girl can I have this dance? And the next one after that?"
I remember when we were content.
So happy to sway to slow country songs
Our bodies pressed oh so close,
Holding each other,
Dancing to our own beat.
"Hey pretty girl it feels so right, just like it's meant to be."
You opened up a whole new world and helped me grow.
You taught me how to love myself and filled in my missing pieces.
You taught me what true love was and re-completed the broken puzzle of my heart,
Gluing me back until I was whole.
"All wrapped up in my arms so tight. Hey pretty girl, it feels so right."
We would always stay oh so close,
Giggling, laughing, the envy of everyone.
Ring on finger proving I belonged to you.
Your one and only, till death do us part.
But...
"Happiness don't drag its feet. Time moves faster than you think."
Inside we were slowly breaking,
A difference of desires.
A difference of drive.
A difference of need.
Slowly we were being pulled apart at out loving seams.
"Hey pretty girl, let's build some dreams."
The happy times still outweighed the sad,
Until my tears broke free one last time,
And then I gave you back your ring.
Try, and try again we must.
We did, but…
Broken hearts never fully heal,
Expectations still remain,
A difference of desires, drive, and need.
Do you even know what I want?
You promised me forever, but forever never came.
Silly things got in our way, a difference of opinions.
But together we had changed.
Don't worry about looking back my way.
It's time for me to travel alone.
Thank you, because of you I have grown.
