The Best Days Are Still To Come
The wilted flower mopes,
Leaving me wondering why it had to be there in the first place.
Why did this have to happen?
Why didn’t I see any signs to warn me?
The rain rolls down my window,
Reminding me of all the tears I cried; the tears I saw you cry.
The guilt hits me hard and knocks me off balance.
What would have happened if I had gotten there sooner?
The church bell rings,
And without you it sounds like a hollow promise.
Where was God when I needed Him most?
Why did He part us so soon?
A butterfly lands on the blade of grass in front of me,
Is it you?
Without you nothing seems to be the same.
Do you miss me like I miss you?
My father stands in front of me,
Telling me that it’s not my fault; there was nothing we could do.
But the same thing runs through my head on repeat,
What if?
I imagine you standing along side me,
Smiles on our faces.
No tears, no sorrow,
Almost like it was yesterday.
I see a flower bloom in the early spring,
Reminding me of the gift of life.
I see the sun shining down on me,
Telling me that the best days are still to come.
The church bells chime in the wind,
Professing that God is, and always will be, there for me.
He didn’t part us forever,
And I know that someday we will see each other again.
