What is wrong with our world?
That children as young as 10 are hanging themselves
Hidden away
For their unsuspecting siblings to find.

What is wrong with our world?
Innocent teachers trying to help get shunned for not being involved
When in reality they are doing all they can
Behind the scenes
And trying so hard not to slip through the cracks and join their students
In the world of scared confusion.

What is wrong with our world?
Innocent sleep has become a channeling for
The emotions pushed back into the underbelly of the mind
Always running away from the monster of whichever feeling wasn't
Able to find a way out
Of the pink twisting tunnels that make up our thoughts.

What is wrong with our world?
That the grey clouds of Christmas memories and road trips
Stick in the throats of young children sending them
Spinning in a sirened segway through the streets
Unnerving passersby
Just so they can breath again.

What is wrong with our world?
The voices of Christians and homophobes
Ring out with judgment
And those of Jews and homosexuals
Ring right back.
Filling the air with the bitter breath of hatred
And love can't be right because your friends say so
And they will never get married
Because of the smell of unacceptance.

What is wrong with our world?
Razors for sale become pens and paint to
Decorate the canvas of flesh. And pain
Becomes pleasure or more like
Pain becomes pain which in itself becomes pleasure long
After the root has been buried even deeper than it was before.

What is wrong with our world?
Facebook and Tumblr and Twitter and Skype
Are now communication and the long stroll across to
A pen and paper is painful.
It pulls at your legs and your lungs are burning because in the small
Journey more air has been in them than ever before.
They have shriveled and mutated to gasp at the fluorescent
Screen rather than the emotion the snails
Then snails with stamps once carried.

What is wrong with our world?
We are lucky to live on this monster poking his head out of the
Deep and keeping us afloat
Yet all we to do repay him is
Pick out his hair and pull at his skin
Until one day he will sink back down to the protection of his waves
And the floating island we call home will be
No more.

What is wrong with our world?
That mothers of more have to make a choice
Even though 'tis not so' they say.
An apple and orange are to different to choose yet people
Still have a preference. And so
Little girls are leaving the safety of a hug
To fend for themselves in this harsh world
Because she is an apple and her brother
Is the orange of his mother's eye.

What is wrong with our world?
People are breaking, their tears being absorbed
Into the tie-dye of comfort and love, all because
These leaves of the world's grief are falling into their baskets.
And in this harsh world
These broken people become angry and pluck out
The hair of the monster to drive on more road trips,
They grow up more and choose the orange because the apple's
Breath doesn't smell strongly enough of hatred,
Causing more children to hang themselves,
Hidden away
For their unsuspecting siblings to find.
