You may tell a tale that takes up residence in someone's soul, becomes their blood and self and purpose. That tale will move them and drive them and who knows what they might do because of it, because of your words. That is your role, your gift.

I am trapped inside this little box
Can’t you hear my shouts?
Alone inside this little box
Trying to yell out
I am scared and I am lonely
Where no one else can see
A cage of utter calmness
My emotions are not free
Why can no one listen
To my helpless cries?
This stolid mask on my face
A mere façade of lies
From inside this box
No one sees my tears
No one could ever know
All my deepest fears
There is such a sadness
That petrifies my core
But for the false smile on my face
No one will know more
Why can’t they look deeper
And try to crack the shield?
They never see the sorrow
That my heart will always wield
The worst part of the box
It’s nothing you can find
It resides only within
The recesses of my mind
It is of my own making
Hardened so with pain
But I am often drowned within
By snow and sleet and rain
The downpour never reaches
The sparkle of my eye
The box will no allow the rain
To ever turn to cries
I am scared and I am lonely
But the world will never know
Without looking past the mask
You’ll never see below
I am trapped inside this little box
Can’t you hear my shouts?
Screaming at these walls
From which I can’t get out

I have found myself to be the type of person who hides her emotions, and it can feel like a cage sometimes. I wrote this to try and express what I usually can't.

It is better to write for yourself and have no audience than write for your audience and have no self.

this is exactly how i feel! i love how you described vulnerability in such a sad, sad way. there's a whole lot of emotion in this poem, and it really tugged at my heart. greatttt job!
