Where I'm From
I am from long summer days,
From Coppertone sunscreen and freshly picked flowers.
I am from the big window in my house overlooking the lake,
From lilacs and sunflowers.
I am from 4th of July cookouts and a good sense of humor,
From Lisa and Rick and Grandpa Harvey.
I am from the easy going, hard working lifestyle of the Martinez family,
From “You’re stronger than you think,” and “You can do anything you want if you work hard.”
I’m from Mexico and Germany,
From tamales and homemade caramel.
I am from the most important people in my life,
From those who support me in everything I do.
I am from my family.
