Isn't it ironic? We ignore the ones who adore us, adore the ones who ignore us, love the ones who hurt us, and hurt the ones that love us.

The wind blows,
like a twisting turning serpent,
wriggling it’s way through the cracks in the house.
It’s not yet winter,?but leaves have long since fled.

Rain falls,
almost like ice,
it runs down my face as I walk,
I tilt my head up and let it run.
Down my cheeks,
down my neck.
I let it mingle with the warm tears,
and let it cool them down,
until I no longer know what is rain or tears.

The woods surrounding the house,
shivers in the wind.
Bending, trembling.
With all of it’s might,
it still suffers from cold.

I sigh and watch my breath,
swirling in tendrils,
like smoke.
It twist and writhes,
until it fades in the fog.

In the silence,
I toss up a prayer.
“Father,
Forgive him.
He knows not what he does.”

I toss back my hair from my bruised face.
The prints of his hands,
all over,
are coated with the chilled rain.
It soothes them as I finish my prayer.

“Father, please,
help me.
I no longer can hold on.”

I murmur Amen,
and look over the edge,
and drop the broken necklace,
he ripped from my neck.

“I no longer can hold on to what I love.”
