“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

I remember sitting on the dog house roof as if it were a horse,
I remember flying kites out of the back of a silver pick-up truck,
I remember chewing on the foam bathtub letters when I was little,
I remember accidentally catching my first fish with my dad,
It was a catfish,
I remember running around my church in my pea green bridesmaids dress,
And poofing it up by standing over the floor air vents,
I remember giving a speech about Venus Williams during Black History Month in 5th grade,
We were outside on the nature trails,
I remember the first funeral I went to,
A lady with long fingernails was stroking the suit of the dead guy,
I remember laughing so hard I almost spit out my cheerios at 7th grade lunch,
I remember awkwardly trying to talk to a girl who I didn’t know was mute,
I remember the heart pounding exhilaration of performing
In the finals of Shakespeare Recitation,
I remember dancing like an idiot with my friends at the 8th grade dance,
I remember my first slow dance,
There was a tiny string on the back of his jacket and I couldn’t stop fiddling with it,
I remember the freaky dream I had last night where I was holding an umbrella for some Spanish teachers in the pouring down rain,
I remember back in the day,
When the only worries I had involved locating missing Barbie shoes.

This is an "I Remember" poem. The requirements were to include at least 12 things we remember from our lives, one from no longer than a week ago.
