The Deceptive Nature of the Sun
And we were happy
 and things were good.
 Like the sun was ever-shining

  bright like your smile

  warm like your embrace.
 But the sun must set
 And things that shine
    can’t stay shining forever.
And the inevitable cold creeps in
    as the sun goes down.
And I guess it was foolish of me
to expect things to stay the way they were:

  happy, shining, warm, good
when I should have seen it all along.
You had your back turned to me the whole time
Leaving me only with your shadow
    created by that sun.
 I should have realized

  things weren't good

  and neither were you.
