A little girl
Different
The wheelchair takes her dreams away
All she wants is a friend
Someone that says hello
Without a hint of judging in their voice
One day
She rolled up to me
Waiting at my bus stop
She asked me my name
I tell her
I can feel the other kids staring at me
Their disapproving gaze catches like wildfire
But just this once
I want to make this little girl feel what she is worth
She sparkles against the dull
But others don't see
She asks me if I want to know a secret
I nod my head yes
And I really do
She rolls away with confidence
I follow her with my head up
I don't care what the others think anymore
She leads me to the door of the school
She tells me this is her singing spot
She asks me if I want her to sing
I say I do
She sings
The pitch isn't right
She runs out of breath
She sings the same part over and over
But it's the most beautiful voice I've heard
As pure as diamonds
And I can't wait until she takes me to her singing place again
And sings the lyrics of her heart
