Father Where Have You Gone?

Do you feel like a man?
When you push me around?
Does it make you feel better?
When you break me down?
Does it make you feel big?
To make me feel small?
Does it make you feel funny?
To laugh at my falls?
Does it make you a saint?
When you say the words?
That cause me such pain
Your personal curse
Does it make you feel safe?
To show me your gun?
And make me face
The fact I can't run?
Does it make it okay?
To tell me come home?
And to break me down
'Til I'm all alone
Does it comfort you?
To know there's a kid?
Whose life you can make crumble?
The way that mine did?
Does it make it okay?
Cause this one's a boy?
And you'll get your way
Like a child with a toy?
Does it make you more loved?
When you put him down?
Or make him the reason, you're not around?
Did it make you feel power?
When you made her cry?
Even in the brightest hours
Her smile had died
Does it make you a man?
That you made us fall?
No you're not a man
You have nothing at all

I have suffered 16 years of verbal abuse in obedient silence and I refuse to do so anymore.

I went through this in fifth grade, and it stinks. I'm sorry, dear. Beautiful poem, though. Have a great day!

"Me?
Well, I’m well.
Well, I mean I’m in hell.
Well, I still have my health
At least that’s what they tell me
If wellness is this, what in hell’s name is sickness?"

I can relate to domestic verbal abuse, and I think it's very brave of you to post this and to even express your experiences through poetry. I think this is a very good piece of work, and I hope you can see that there are good people in the world, those who can treat you well despite the abuse you've received from your father. Whether someone's male or female, no one deserves that kind of abuse.

It is better to write for yourself and have no audience than write for your audience and have no self.
