"Did you like the show?"
He asked me, grinning
It was a simple question really,
But for some small, insignificant reason
It made me feel so out of season
I told myself
"It's only a question, you can do this, be calm,
be calm and collected."
I fixed my hair
I sucked in a breath
I swallowed fast and...
Nodded my head
But, no.
I was prepared,
I had a speech
I'd tried so hard to make him see
That I could speak,
That I was real
That I could talk and think and feel
But instead,
I fixed my hair

I really like how you managed to put a lot of meaning into a pretty short poem. The repetition of the third stanza drove the meaning home and kind of summarized the whole poem. Five stars :)
