"She doesn't even go here!"
-Damion from Mean Girls

He sits on the porch, watching the rain.
The smell of loss drives him out to his chair.
He's alone in the house on the long gravel lane.

Yellowing photos of happier days
Smile out at a room filled with stale air
As he sits on the porch, watching the rain.

His children are scattered from Virginia
to Maine.
None called him father, now none seem
to care
That he's alone in the house on the long gravel lane.

The ceiling collapsed one night as he lay
Trying to find refuge in sleep's peaceful lair,
So he sits on the porch to watch the rain.

A decade of lonely, a decade of pain,
A decade of wishing she was still there
And he wasn't alone in the house on the long gravel lane.

As I leave, I wonder what goes through
his brain
And what he still lives for, but he just stares
While he sits on the porch watching the rain
Alone in his house on the long gravel lane.

This house is the saddest place I've ever been.
