“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

You have built a nest in my heart
As a flittering hummingbird ecstatic
With the prospects of creation.

I want this to feel symbiotic,
Your silky home of bristles lodged
Deep inside my flowing veins

With your rapid wing beats finding
A synchronization with my blood,
Pounding love through my chambers.

They have been so dark and lonely.
Your bustling motions ring soft bells,
Resonating a new network of hope.

Last night I felt you down there,
Swaying recklessly, pinching a nerve
With swift and selfish flight.

I ignored the pain with a smile
Slanted slightly to the side because
Your energy gave me warmth.

Today the pangs have persisted,
Your wings scathing knife blades
Brandished against my chest,

Severing arteries and sapping spirit
In relentless waves of desperation.
A restless aura knots my stomach.

You have brought me to my knees,
My precisely sliced heart fading
Into thickets of rotting brambles.

You scream from the depths
Of my dismembered haven,
The pointed cry of the raven.
