when I’m sleeping,
sometimes I see this boy.
smiling at the ladybugs.

He wears a striped shirt,
hut he is not a boy.
he is an enigma

he is a pharo and a dinosaur.
now he is a ninja-
wait- He has decided he is a prince.

sometimes he plays as wonder woman.
because he knows no gender roles.
he only goes where his imagination takes him

he likes to play outside-
he runs and leaps.
and boasts that he could outrun the wind.

sometimes he plays at building mysteries.
based on scooby doo.
the evidence are his mother’s notepads.

sometimes the little boy crys.
when he skins his knee.
but he becomes tough, for his little brother-

but the little boy’s favorite thing to do is talk to god-
he walks around and speaks with Jesus.
the little boy speaks of his fears,

and sometimes God replies-
the little boy finds beauty in everything-
from carpet to leaves.

the boy can read now-
he reads the bible-
but he can only find the verse where god says he loves him.

and he doesn't pretend understand the church.
but Jesus made all the beauty he finds.
so the little boy loves the world more and more

This poem is a reflection on what I remember about my childhood.

Thia was so cute! I loved the concept of a child being very religious, even if he didn't understand church or the bible that well. Good poem.
