Dandelion
His plump fingers wrap tightly around and yank on the stem,
Imagining this one flower can change everything for him
His eyes are young, they cannot yet see
How cruel this world can truly be
He scrunches up his face and wishes hard
From deep within a heart that is yet to be scarred
What he wishes for doesn’t matter, it’s the fact he still believes
That something amazing can come from just a few tiny seeds
He gulps in air then blows with all his breath
Bringing new life to something that appeared to be at its death
White puffs dance away, wrenched from their protective stem
And his wish is at the mercy of fate and the wind.
