The Love That Still Remains
I have seen such a beauty
 That cannot be explained
 Beauty that reminds us
Of the love that still remains

A simple smile and a nod
To let you know that you are seen
Or a dollar to the drifter
For a Coke from the machine

The way a child swings their legs
When they cannot touch the floor
Or when you rush ahead of others
 Just to hold the door

 The innocence of a child
 Asking "Why do people fight?"
Or just chatting with a stranger
 Late into the night

The way a teacher loves his job
Even when he can't pay rent
Or when someone leaves a check
On a car they left a dent

How your mother makes you soup
When you're sick home from school
Or a simple comment from a friend
To let you know they think you're cool

The way a father shows his son
How to hammer in a nail
Or when a man asks "How ya doin?"
Even though he brings your mail

All these things are so small
 So insignificant to us
But I know they make a difference
In a world that carries thus
