Trinkets
I’m chasing back through time
a memory of whispers
in the hills
of the place where we first met
and exchanged broken trinkets
that i kept clenched in my fist
and pressed against my chest
and you held out openly
ready for defeat
called our hearts
and we fixed them up
with patches, tape, and tears
and we let them mix
and melt
together
to create an unnaturally
fluorescent, happy color
of love.
