Her collarbones almost stabbed through her skin.
Her skeletal fingers grasped at the little skin
she had left on her thin, pale stomach.
She put her petite toes together
and her crescent thighs still didn’t touch.
Her tiny, sliced wrists skimmed over
the tight skin on her face.
She cried to her reflection in the mirror.
“Just skip a few more meals
and maybe you’ll be beautiful.”

The author's comments:
I wrote this free-verse because it's about a topic that means a lot to not only me, but to a lot of girl's my age. I know it's a bit cliche and over done but I just started writing and this is what happened. Please leave feedback! It means so much!

This is so wonderful. Several members of my family suffer from Anorexia, and so I know cliche when I read it, and this my friend is not cliche. It's true and terrible and I love it so much! Please keep writing!!

Society sets high standards of how to look, speak, act, and be. What most people don't realize is that you are perfect the way you are because that was the way you were created.

That's a chilling last line. Eating disorders exist. It's so sad to see many girls and boys dying because they think the skinnier they are the more beautiful they will be. Excellent poem.
