Stress
Back crooked to accommodate the slope of the trunk
I sit, limbs folded up to my torso
 Safe
 Above the ground

The wind catches my throat as it speeds to my lungs
 Cold chaffing against tissues
 A burning gulp of alcohol

 A dead wind
Laced with the carrion of leaves
 A dead wine
 Stale, flat, hollow
Shrieking through the crisped wild flowers and grass

I huddle closer to the steadiness of the tree
 Praying for winter
