Peel back the tangled plight
Of broken promises and vows;
Strip down the bitter lies
I’ve hidden and tried not to rouse;
See through the translucent dreams
Never meant to fulfill;
Unveil the leaching envy
That courses through me still;
Shatter the false hope
Of yearning for something more;
Crumble the acidic thoughts
Of thick and viscous remorse;
Shed the oozing tears
Of lost despair;
Skin the part of me
That wasn’t there;
Expose the layer
You’d like to see,
For I swear
Love flows
Beneath
The rest of me.
