"Madame, all stories, if continued far enough, end in death, and he is no true-story teller who would keep that from you."
-Ernest Hemingway

When you look at me
I don’t suppose that you see what is inside.
The fire that chokes me now
Because I’m crying
Tears like acid
And no one can see
It’s not as if I tried to hide it.
It’s not as if you can’t look
And find me
In a ball on the ground with black smoke around me
Like a baby whose mom is gone.
But I the one gone
From my own body.
Just a shell walking and talking
But I don’t suppose
That when you look at me
You ever see the cavern inside
Wide as an ocean
Sparse as a dessert.
And looking through me you don’t see
I am blank
I am cold
I am breaking
