Hope Is Out There

I've had this sickness inside of me my whole life
Born with it, genetics procured it for me
No one knew I was sick, not even I
Only with the start of high school did I start to see the symptoms
Winter came, everything got worse
I fell into a deep hole, unable to climb out by myself
I didn't know how to call out for help, so I kept silent

The crocus pushed through the hard soil, I felt better
I didn't know what had come over me, but I thought I was cured
Summer passed joyfully, but fall brought struggles and pain
It was different this time, but I still couldn't ask for help
The hole wasn't so deep, but it stretched on for miles and miles
My only relief was summer, the warm sun and endless freedom

When fall came around, I continued to dance in the fading sun and falling leaves
This time, I didn't see the hole
I fell hard and fast, so deep light didn't reach the bottom
I scratched the walls to get out, but they fell in on me
There was no escape, so I surrender to the darkness
I laid cold and lifeless, unable to help myself

When a hand reached down, it pulled me up
It turns out, all I needed was help and hope
I still have that sickness inside of me, but now I have learned to control it
Sometimes I trip, but I never let myself fall deep down into the dark pit

If life for you
Been less than kind
Take a number
Stand in line
We've all been sorry
We've all been hurt
But it's how we survive

Thank you everyone for your positive comments. I will keep writing.

I do believed it helped. TeenInk was a positive place for me to go. Writing helped me understand my feelings. My teacher once told me that "You never truly believe what you think until you write it down."

I was wondering whether or not you felt like writing poetry helped you get out of this whole?   I was at this point too in my life and I felt that writing my emotions down was a lot easier than expressing them.
