The fire, it burned me.
It was fierce and exhilarating.
My heart was beating so fast,
I swear the gods could hear my pain.
I couldn't breathe in that moment,
my nightmares had become my reality.
How could this have happened?
I lay face down in the ground,
covered in soot and mud
and scars and bruises,
they beat me till I bled.
These monsters of men.
I never disobeyed them,
I never sleep too late,
I did not betray them.
Yet here I lay
with my bones shattered
and mussels feeling like clay.
How could this have happened?
How could they do this to me?
I guess I'll never know
and I will never ask
for they would only make
their torturing last.

The author's comments:
The book I am writing called, Triggered, inspired me to write this poem. Due to the violence and torturing of my main character, Natalie Oxford, where she goes through pain and suffering as I have written in this poem.
