The worst of all bad dreams
they shake me from my sleep.
The smoke alarm glares at me.

A fist swipes at the air
and skin passes through skin.
My emotions are denied.

The worst of all bad dreams
are ones where I am there
but I is lowercase.

I cry in rage but still
there is no sound
coming from my mouth.

The worst of all bad dreams
are foul buses and smiles.
Children screech and world laughs.

A world passing me by,
friends leading sad lives.
How powerless I am.

The worst of all bad dreams
are where I am a ghost,
forgotten and alone.

The author's comments:
I keep having dreams where I see life moving in a direction I don't want it to, and I get so frustrated at my powerlessness that I try to punch someone. My hand just passes through them, like I'm a ghost. It always wakes me up and I feel like I had a nightmare but I don't think that it qualifies as that.
