The Shelf
Standing on the wooden shelf
Makes my spine hurt
Makes my pages stiff
Crammed onto this wooden shelf
Makes me want to burst out
Until I feel something
Grasping my cover
Pulling me out of my misery
Thumbing through the pages that make me
Then I’m being closed up
And I’m taken towards the shelf
“No!” I cry with no sound
“Yes,” the shelf calls back
I thud onto the surface
And slide into a gap
My life on the shelf
Has begun again
