Socially Susceptible
People fade away, when I walk towards them they evade my way.
It would make my day to befriend you all,
But tall orders don't get filled in this dining hall,
Where the popular feast on the populace.
Why can't we all get along? The answer is obvious.
We're not all suave, smooth, or slick,
Quick witted, or too quiet to melt into the clique.
As rare as 'popular' is, lack thereof is contagious.
Being seen with an outcast can turn the courageous into outrageous.
I hear unspoken cries, 'save us, save us
End this ongoing social cycle that plagues us'.
I hear, but how can I lend a helping hand?
Sand slipping through the hourglass, my chance has passed.
I get the feeling it'll come full circle once more,
In fact I'm sure, that the same exclusions will happen, same as before.
As I laugh half heartedly with my group of friends,
Others think to themselves, 'God when will it end?
God, what kind of help can you send?
How much more time alone will I spend?'
In my day and age, people aren't who they seem.
Teeming with beaming teens with true emotions held behind the scenes.
I shouldn't need a backstage pass to see the real you.
I shouldn't have to doubt myself and change to appeal to you.
I solemnly swear to stay the same inside and out,
And I won't be someone you always be perplexed about.
I'll respect you if you respect me,
I won't neglect or inspect you, no matter what my mood'll be.
So friends, stay you, stay true, stay blessed.
Let the fake and arrogant know that honest is best.
