What Is Love?
Why would anybody want to fall in love?
It's almost as if
Two people, drawn by something unseen,
Wait.
Hold it RIGHT there.
I've never seen it.
Is it real? Is it a clever trick, a sleight of hand?
A façade of emotions mixed with hormones,
What the world sees and what is,
Are two vastly different things.
Maybe I just don't understand.
My modest mind struggles to wrap
Cerebral tethers around this...
Concept?
Idea?
Figment of imagination?
Tangible item?
something so v a g u e . . .
. . . y e t s o real.
I dreamt one night,
Falling captive to a starry sky
That somewhere,
Somewhere way up in the cosmos,
A butterfly flutters through
Sweet solitude,
Nothing known but the promise of tomorrow.
The last of a dying breed,
It will perish,
Only when it realizes it's alone.
But he flies on,
In sweet ignorance of the love, the feeling,
the trick,
The Being,
he does not, and may never know.
Fly on,
And may you find the love you fight so hard for
At long last.
