Money Troubles
A long lunch hour, a familiar point in time.
Cups of half empty drinks scatter the cafeteria
Like loose change. A man in a black pinstripe suit
enters the cafeteria. He walks slowly with a
little hop to his step. Screaming into his Bluetooth
headset as if he owns everyone. He walks down
the aisle towards the concessions.
Suddenly a new face enters the cafeteria.
A stench filled the air. Sweat that enveloped him like a
cloud, he had a nasty limp that suggested he might've
been in a war, and his clothes were moth eaten. In his
face you could see a lifetime, both full and overwhelming, he
was very tall and weak I was afraid a gust of air might
cause him to fall over, it made me feel pity, and pride, and
sorrow all at once, how such a strong man could amount to this.
He is hunched over the counter, hands tucked in his
black dress pants. Teeth biting his
lips, eyes wide open. He rattles
his pockets and withdraws every last bit of change.
The coins hitting the counter making a twanging sound
as it spins down and stops.
