Poetry Is
Poetry is writing with line
 breaks, cracks and crevices in
 the very earth upon which
we teeter, on the verge of
falling into blinding light or crushing darkness.

 Poetry is writing
 with line breaks, hairline
 fractures between us and
 those we have hurt,
ready at any moment to spread into
 a shattering valley.

Poetry is writing with line breaks,
slits in your heart that bleed
 into words on the paper.
When at last we are anemic and
 exhausted, poetry is
 writing with power to heal.
