The words I write are the only things that make me feel alive.

In the dark of the night
with the cold, crisp air
biting at my nose,
little sparklers
dashing & dancing in the air
like the love we once
shared.

Like fireflies in the sky,
dreams of you & I
poison the night light.

Innocent wishes cover the
hard, damp ground in
icy layers.

The wind fierce & strong
like those late nights
when you’d raise your voice.

Though the air so bitter &
cold, something about it
makes me quite warm.

The dangerously-beautiful
pure white flakes has me
recall
those late nights when
I was wrapped in
your loving arms.

Your sweet scent mixing
with hazy smoke of
the fire.

As we watched the
sparklers & the fireflies dance
in the midnight air -

Together -

No longer.
