Symphony of Catastrophy
We start with the woodwinds
The wailing wind through the woods
The melodies rise, the harmonies fall
leaves carried away by sound
Next the strings play as limb scratches limb
moaning, groaning, waving back and forth.
Staccato plucks and smacks multiply
and all the while the tempo grows
Now the dynamics change, we go down low.
a deep baritone rumbles the earth
water falls from the sky, ping pang,
The ground is a xylophone.
Sudden cymbals smash in the sky,
they skip the beat, they syncopate
Amplified above the medley
a crackle of light plays in the trees
A beautiful cacophony envelops all
sounds loud and soft, fast and slow.
The flame spreads despite the storm
creaks and bangs as branches hit the floor
Now it all dies down, as instruments drop
the grey sky clears, the air becomes dry
the breeze no more than a whistle
all that remains is the silence of night.
