All at once I was afraid of him.
Because I liked him,
And the irony was squeezed out with my last echoing laugh.
I had promised to be done with boy-men.

But he was just a boy.
And all at once he became a man.
And we were together.
And my life decided to become an awkwardness-vaccum.

But he was mean.
And his laugh was like a croak.
He was like a coward.
Like a baby.
And I was no longer afraid.

Because all at once he was a mouse.
He was so much more naive,
so much smaller.
Like a weasel.
Like a mouse.

I am like an elephant.
I hear a lot,
and I see a lot.
I am not pretty,
but I am quiet when I can be,
and loud whenever possible.

Then all at once our lips were there,
And they were together,
Glued so tight.
I push him off.
"Get away," I say.

But he smiles.

And he comes closer.

And all of a sudden I understand why elephants are afraid of mice.

I am in a relationship that I no longer want. The "I love you's" just aren't real anymore.
