Hershey
3 Weeks
Of playing
Of romping
Of rolling
Across the living room floor
3 weeks
Of her only getting two or three baths
Of peeing
And pooping
On the floor
3 weeks
Of being six
And having a puppy -
A Beagle to be exact
3 weeks
Before she went away
And to this day
8 years later
She is a mere memory
Of a puppy for some
And simply a story for others
Hershey
To me
Hershey
Was a puppy
Not a candy
Though she was sweet
To me at least
For my mom
She peed
She pood
Always on the carpet
Maybe I didn’t take her out as often as I should
For my brother
She chased
And nipped
At his heels
Maybe I didn’t train her well...
If I trained her at all, that is
Maybe she was never
Good for my family
Maybe she just
Needed some training
Maybe it was
My fault she was given away
Maybe
It just wasn’t meant to be
Maybe we are
Strictly a cat family
But either way
She is somewhere
In the clouds
On a farm
Or in a cage
We will never know
So for four people
Hershey will always be the puppy
With a giant tick
And strong will
For two people
She will only be a story
