We had walked
on opposite sides of the street,
but I fell
and the ground crumpled beneath my feet.
Then you pulled me up
and let me walk with you
on your side of the street.
I had felt like I owed you,
so I walked in front of you
to protect you from things in your way.
But you slid on the ice beneath you
and fell all the same.
With the scars on your left arm to remind me,
I decided to walk behind you
and hoped to catch you if you fell again.
Little did I know,
that I left you to fend for yourself,
causing you to fall forward
and harder than last time.
The scars across your legs remind me;
those evil jagged lines.
So what can I do now?
I can't help you,
no matter what I do.
But can I comfort you?
I know personally
that your scars will never heal.
You have to cover them
and pretend that they're not there.
