Autumn Leaves
As the leaves begin to
tumble off the branches,
my psyche begins to
unravel.
The leaves, watercolored in an
array of warm shades.
Amber, crimson, burgundy, tangerine,
ruby, burnt umber, canary yellow and copper.
The leaves, harbingers of
icy winters
filled with
hiding in solitude.
The leaves, an omen of my
mental descent.
The cold brings long sweaters to cover my
shrinking and scarred body.
As the leaves begin to
tumble off the branches
my psyche begins to
unravel.
