A Thousand Years
A thousand years ago,
I fell in love.
Back when white, fluffy clouds sailed across the brilliant blue sky,
And the stars could be seen winking in the black, velvet cloth of night.
That fateful year,
you captured me in the throes of your love—
Easing;
Soothing;
Caressing;
the loneliness away.
You were my sun.
Always there to greet me in the morning,
with your laugh full of life and love.
You were my stars.
Always there to comfort me—
even when I couldn’t see you.
You left me though.
Setting our time of love,
down into the recesses of the Earth.
Never to be seen again.
You sent me into the murky depths
of bitter despair,
as I witnessed you—
Who always promised to be there for me;
to always love me—
Run off with your new and deceiving mistress:
Death.
I watched as your eyes turned to glass,
and mine turned to shells.
Only to contain the smallest flicker of life;
The tiniest candle for comfort
in the darkness of your absence.
But, that was a thousand years ago.
Yet,
If you listen hard enough,
You can still hear my heart shattering into infinite pieces.
