Untamable
We all travel to the same place,
At the same time,
On the same road.
We all wear the same clothes,
And think the same things,
With nothing available to differentiate ourselves from the rest—
Nothing, unique about us.
We listen to the same people,
Follow the same orders,
Without objection towards our superiors.
As I march on the path towards solitude,
With my identical friends,
I notice a road.
A small road,
With a fence.
Stopping those to come,
Blocking those from freedom.
Beyond the fence,
I see the horizon.
The winking sun and
The bright reds and pinks
Of dreams.
Stepping towards the fence,
I look back at my friends—
With their blank faces and
Grey clothes—
They don’t notice my absence.
They just keep walking—
Like the slaves they are.
Our masters may bind our hands—
Punish us—
Labor us—
Kill us—
But they can never tame our hopes and dreams.
Even through the solid fence of imprisonment,
The horizon peeks through.
Shining its hope on our hopeless bodies.
The human heart can’t be tamed,
For it is untamable.
I climb the fence.
