&quot;Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, &quot;I will try again tomorrow.&quot;<br /> ~Mary Anne Radmacher

When fires burn
Bright and hot
Singeing brows
And breaking bonds

Snow comes
To quench the flame
Freeze the world
And free the pain

Lies keep
Our hearts apart
Truths be told
It's just the start

Of raging wars
And howling winds
The fires burn
Until the end

It won't stop
Unless we're cold
The world will die
The cards will fold

Bones break easy
We turn to ash
The lines of red
From every lash

Our wounds may heal
They leave a scar
At least we know
The end's not far

Oh, here it comes
The day we die
What we've been waiting for
Our whole lives

The ghosts have gone
They've run away
To find the ones
And make them pay

We'll leave this place
Leave the pain
Put on a mask
Try and look sane

The fires still burn
Sealing our fate
To die at the hands
Of the ones we hate

Who am I
To change their minds?
Pull them off the tracks
Away from straight lines

Curve all the edges
Of a sharpened sword
To look through the clouds
And pray to our Lord

They burn us like wood
Tied to a stake
Trying to make
Our hearts break

Yet no one realizes
That we're just like them
Wounded soldiers
Alone again

It's like we're trying
To keep on fighting
A war with no warriors
So how can we win?

History keeps repeating
The same old big mistake
Judging others far before
They knew who was real and who was fake

The fires still sear our skin
And burn away the past
Of the ones who died before us
Of the ones who didn't last

Who could have guessed
That we'd end up like this?
Holding our breath
As we pass into an unknown abyss

Maybe one day
We'll find our way home
Back to the place
Where we're not alone

To see the people
That came after us
Thinking that they
Were the only ones

Maybe they'll dig a little deeper
Find the treasures we left behind
Discover the grounds
The places we died

The worst part
Is being hidden away
Lost in
The empty waves

Stuck in a maze
Where there's no way out
Screaming and screaming
But we can't make a sound

We've made our escape
Opened the door
Connected the realms
Like never before

We left this world
But left our souls behind
Entwined our paths
In fate's twisted time

And who remembers
Why we're gone?
The things we've seen?
The things we've done?

We're buried deep
Like forgotten bones
We're buried deep
Like our lost souls

The fires burnt us
They left us alone
The fires took us
They brought us home.

I'm not sure if people can tell what this poem is about without me telling you... But I wrote it about witch burnings. Honestly, I am not sure why I chose this subject; all in all, I'm glad I did.
