One day I hope to turn on the TV and see something good.
I want to see plot lines that always end well,
Not in plot points but in character.
I want to see the words “peace” and “agreement,”
And I want every word to be truth.
I want to see different colors hugging,
And hugging from love, not guilt.
I want to see unity and no need to bring up racism.
I want to see tears of joy and announcements of birth.
I want to see full lives die because of natural causes.
I want to see weapons being burnt instead of books.
And see the men overseas come home for good,
With warm reception.
I want to see dreams coming true,
I want to see tears of gratitude,
Over memorials and flags that were once at half staff.
And people working for what they want,
And taking responsibility.
I want to see full family portraits,
And prayer circles in ICUs.
I want to see a melting pot and peaceful conversions.
I want to see laughter and headlines of affirmation,
Not destruction.
I want to see knowledge and trust meeting halfway,
And having no crowd to go against.
I know this hope will come true, and the lines will be erased,
Because deep down we all love and want to be loved,
And hatred can only be eliminated when selfishness is.
But for now I’ll just lay in bed and hear the news,
The war and hurt and pain,
And pray for that time to come.
Because the only way to make it to that one day
Is to make it through tomorrow.
