American Dream Eulogy
You were born when we needed you most
When we were down, and had no hope
Thinking of you never failed to make us dream
Of all the things we could aspire to be

 Because of your beauty
 Thousands befriended you
 Some would even
 Sell their soul for you

 If it wasn’t their soul
 They would sell their house
 Leave their family
 And abandon their native land

 In physique, you were fit
 From always running away
 From all those phonies
Who did not deserve you anyway

And when they could not find you
They would make a list of complaints
Blaming your step sister, bad luck
 For bringing sorrow and dismay

 It must have been hard
When skeptics would go as far as to say
 That you were a fraud
 Devoid of fairness and goodness

But today we remember you for
All the great things you have done
Such as built railroads and skyscrapers
Things that we never could have done

 Without your help
I question what would have been achieved
And if humans would have progressed
If those in rags would have dared to dream of riches

It is hard to say goodbye
To a friend whom I knew so well
And meant so much to people
Who you will never even know
