Never Mine
I miss you
But you were never mine.
Raucous laughs, fun talk
Friendship easily rolling off our tongues
So easy, so fluid, so simple
Since I’ve known you for the longest time
But then stolen glances, close touch
Hearts racing as we danced
In a pattern of not knowing what’s real
Will friendship become romance?
Awkward kiss, deafening silence
Elephant in the room
Friendship’s not so easy anymore
We’re better pretenders now
Soul aching, desperate longing
For something more
You told me that you liked me that way
Now I’m not so sure.
Never dating, not committing
I cannot read your mind
This emptiness only you can fill
Has not been filled with time
Empty laughs, small talk
A wedge between the ease
Am I that replaceable?
Do you even care?
I miss you
But you were never mine.
