Where I'm From
I’m from beautiful pictures holding unforgettable memories,
From my skin being painted gold in the sunlight.
I am from multi colored sport balls and hollering brothers,
From rickety chairs and music vibrating the speakers.
I am from the sun beating down on the chalk covered pavement,
From the tangy smell of citrus and the sweet scent of chocolate.
I am from crazily exciting ideas and the sky not being the limit, but the starting point.
I am from soaring so high on the swings that I could practically hug the clouds.
From sticky Popsicle hands and bright red sunburns.
I am from belief in salt water,
The thought that tears, sweat, or the ocean can fix anything.
I am from moist, earthy soil and colorfully coarse flowers.
From contagious energy and finger smudged windows.
I am from the never tired streets of California, and also the quiet, lonely roads of Corvallis.
I’m from the excitement of being spontaneous,
From the blurred colors of life passing by outside my car window.
I am from constantly changing opinions, and millions of spices and smells wafting from a new concoction in the kitchen.
I am from breathless laughter and running until my legs ache.
From hiding in the scratchy grass behind the park.
I am from feet up on the dashboard,
From heat waves floating off the highway.
I am from an abundance of hopes and dreams,
From the splattering of ink in beautiful books.
I’m from expensive taste,
From homey smelling leather and dusty old scrapbooks.
I’m from the wind racing through my hair,
From clattering dishes and rainbow glinted bubbles.
I am from the crinkling of newspaper,
From ink covered fingers and blinding smiles.
I am from different ideas of happiness,
From falling in love with places I have never been.
I am from constant daydreaming and vibrant imaginations.
I am from the splashing and flying of sweet, glistening water.
From pruny fingers and tangled hair.
I am from timeless laughter and musty cars.
From enjoying the little things and yearning for the chance to make a change.
