Love(d)
Kisses her husband,
sends him out the door on his way to work.
Takes her daughter in her arms,
breathing in the new reality of being a mom.
Sets about to do her ordinary day,
unaware of the world’s unordinary intentions.
Her phone rings in the afternoon,
he is going to be up one more time.
Nothing to worry about as the call ends,
“I love you.”
The ending to every conversation
that they have.
The day passes,
phone calls confirm the worst of outcomes.
His plane crashed,
her world shatters.
Now,
Kisses her husband,
only when she abandons the waking life.
Takes her daughter in her arms,
tearfully looking at the young girl he is missing.
Sets about to do her ordinary day,
aware of the world’s cruel happenings.
